Walmart Marketplace is requiring all feeds to migrate to Item Spec 5.0—aka OmniSpec 5, which is a broad taxonomy update for listing creation and management—by Aug. 31, 2025. Feedonomics is already in the process of migrating all Walmart feeds to meet the new requirements.

Item Spec 5.0 aims to improve the quality of content in product listings across the site. We have seen this trend across the industry; accurate and complete product data continues to grow in importance for its role in driving business on marketplaces and ad channels.
Thanks to new required fields for creating product listings with Item Spec 5.0, shoppers will find it easier to search and discover products across Walmart Marketplace.
The most prominent update is the added specificity in item categorization. For example, rather than categorizing a washing machine within the general “Appliances” category, or even the more descriptive “Cleaning appliances” category, sellers are now required to use the most granular taxonomy of “Appliances > Cleaning appliance > Washing machines.”
Sellers benefit from this improved search relevance and content quality, which allows shoppers to find the products they’re looking for with ease.
Please note that older Item Spec versions will be retired on August 31, 2025, and you’ll no longer be able to set up or manage existing items after that date. To avoid any disruption to your business, please migrate to Item Spec 5.x as soon as possible.
