Amazon Buys Whole Foods for $13.7 Billion

Amazon today announced that they would be buying the grocery store chain Whole Foods for a sum of $13.7 billion.

Amazon has already been testing its own physical grocery retail store with Amazon Go, and this move potentially accelerates the effort to expand into fresh food delivery.

Whole Foods is best known for organic, fresh, and locally sourced goods, usually at premium prices.

Interestingly this announcement comes on the heels of Walmart agreeing to acquire the men’s clothing company Bonobos for $310 million today.

It will be very interesting to see how eCommerce bridges the gap with physical retail with Amazon leading the pack.

Given that Amazon’s reach will expand even further, it becomes ever more important to expand your reach and manage your product feeds well on Amazon.
